Four Flights Cancelled in Palangka Raya Due to Forest Fire Smoke

The impact of haze from forest and land fires (karhutla) continues to affect Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan. As a result, four flights have been cancelled.

Four Super Air Jet flights from Palangka Raya to several major cities in Indonesia, ranging from Jakarta to Surabaya, were cancelled.

“Flights destined for Jakarta, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Semarang were declared cancelled because weather conditions and visibility were deemed insufficient to support safe flight operations last Saturday and Sunday. Today, we are awaiting field data to see if further delays occur,” said I Made Darma Swara, General Manager of the PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) Branch Office at Tjilik Riwut Airport, Palangka Raya, as reported on Monday (31/8/2026).

Meanwhile, Citilink flights to Jakarta and Surabaya were awaiting weather developments until 5:00 PM WIB on Sunday (30/8).

“If visibility does not improve by the deadline today, both flights are at risk of being cancelled as well,” he added.

Plumes of smoke from the forest fires, carried by the wind, disrupt air transport activities when visibility decreases. Changing wind directions and fluctuating fire conditions mean the situation around the airport can shift rapidly.

I Made urged prospective passengers to continuously monitor flight information before heading to the airport.

“Tjilik Riwut Airport management ensures that safety remains the primary consideration in every operational decision amidst the haze conditions that have not yet fully subsided,” he concluded.
