Here are four facts about the petrol station attendant assault, compiled by detikcom on Wednesday (25 February 2026):

  1. The Perpetrator Has Been Arrested The Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the victim reported the incident on Monday (23 February). Police responded quickly and successfully apprehended the perpetrator, identified as JMH.

“On Tuesday (24 February), at approximately 4:00 PM, a joint team from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pulogadung Police Station secured the perpetrator in the Rawalumbu area, East Bekasi. The perpetrator was then taken to the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police for further investigation,” said Budi on Tuesday (24 February).

  1. Claimed to be an Official, but Actually a Private Sector Employee Police have questioned JMH, the perpetrator of the assault at a petrol station in Cipinang, East Jakarta. Police confirmed that the perpetrator is not a member of the police force.

“The perpetrator, JMH, has been secured and confirmed not to be a member of the police force, but a civilian working in the private sector,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Tuesday (24 February).

Budi refuted information circulating that the perpetrator was an official. Budi explained that JMH was arrested by a joint team from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pulogadung Police Station in the Rawalumbu area, Bekasi City, West Java.

“The perpetrator was secured in the Rawalumbu area, East Bekasi. The perpetrator was then taken to the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police for further investigation,” said Budi.

  1. Used a Fake Number Plate Police arrested JMH, the perpetrator of the assault at a petrol station in Cipinang, East Jakarta. When he was refused subsidised fuel by the petrol station attendant, JMH used a fake vehicle registration number.

“The incident began when a black Toyota Vellfire attempted to purchase Pertalite fuel. However, the petrol station attendant refused because the barcode scan did not match the vehicle’s registration number, so the purchase could not be made according to regulations,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, to reporters on Tuesday (24 February).

Based on a photo received by detikcom, the fake number plate used by the perpetrator was L-1-XD. Budi said that the plate was not intended for the black Toyota Vellfire driven by the perpetrator.

“The barcode scan did not match the vehicle’s registration number, so the purchase could not be made according to regulations,” explained Budi.

This refusal angered the perpetrator, leading to the assault. Budi stated that several people, including petrol station employees, were victims.

“The refusal triggered the passenger’s emotions. The perpetrator then got out and assaulted several petrol station employees. Some employees were assaulted, including the attendant who tried to intervene,” he said.

He initially confirmed that JMH was not a member of the police force.

“There have been reports stating that a member of the police force assaulted three petrol station employees in the East Jakarta area. This information is incorrect and does not match the facts of the investigation,” said Alfian.

He then stated that JMH was eventually arrested by the police. It was then revealed that he was actually a car rental employee.

“The perpetrator, JMH (31), has been confirmed not to be a member of the police force, but a car rental employee,” he said.

Subsequently, the police questioned the perpetrator. During the questioning, the perpetrator’s statements changed, so the police checked his urine.
