Four drown in overloaded boat

SEMARANG: A small boat carrying farmers from the nearby island of Karangbolong sank off the coast here on Friday drowning four of the 13 people on board.

Kebumen regent Amin Sudibyo told journalists that the boat, which was ferrying farmers back from the island, was overloaded.

"The boat's maximum capacity was six people, but 13 were on board. So, when a large wave hit the boat it capsized," he said.

The surviving passengers managed to swim safely ashore. (har)
