JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of Traffic at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes Pol Komarudin, stated that four different vehicle registration plates were found inside a black Toyota Calya that was driven against traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/2/2026).

“We immediately conducted a search of the vehicle used by the driver, and we found four different pairs of vehicle registration plates,” said Komarudin in a video shared by the Traffic Unit of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Thursday (26/2/2026).

At the time of the incident, the driver of the Calya, identified as HM, was not alone. He was with a toddler and two women.

On Thursday morning, Komarudin visited the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Office to handle the case.

According to Komarudin, HM, as the driver of the vehicle, is being charged under Article 311, paragraphs 1, 2, and 3 of the Traffic and Road Transportation Law.

He faces a maximum sentence of four years in prison and a fine of Rp 8 million.

Based on the evidence, the case of the vehicle driven against traffic has been transferred to the investigators of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

This is to determine whether there is any indication that the vehicle driven by HM was intended for use in criminal activities.

“It has been completed by the traffic investigators, and it is currently being handled by investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta Police,” he added.

Previously, it was reported that the Calya was driving at high speed in the wrong direction on a busy road.

While driving, the vehicle grazed several cars and motorcycles before finally stopping after being pursued by the public and police officers.

According to the Head of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes Pol Reynold Hutagalung, the incident began when the driver was suspected of using a fake number plate.

Before driving against traffic, the vehicle was stopped by police officers at around 5:00 PM.
