Four Different Number Plates Found in Reckless Driver's Car in Central Jakarta: What Were They For?

Police have revealed that several number plates were found in a Toyota Calya car that was driven recklessly and caused multiple collisions in Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta. Police are currently investigating the discovery of the number plates.

“Inside the car, four pairs of different vehicle registration plates were found, two B plates, one G plate, and one B plate,” said the Head of Traffic at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes Komarudin, when contacted by detikcom on Thursday (February 26, 2026).

These four number plates are B-1235-NIL, B-2932-BZF, G-1877-ZZ, and D-1640-AHB. The discovery of these four number plates is currently being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

“We are still investigating the purpose of these number plates,” he said.

In addition to the four pairs of vehicle plates, two sharp weapons and a toy gun were also found.

“The Criminal Investigation Unit of Central Jakarta is currently investigating the other findings,” he said.

Driver Named as Suspect

Police have secured a man with the initials HM (25), the driver of the black Toyota Calya car that was driven recklessly and against traffic, causing multiple collisions in the Gunung Sahari area, Central Jakarta. The perpetrator has now been named as a suspect.

“He has been named as a suspect,” said the Head of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes Reynold EP Hutagalung, when contacted on Thursday (February 26).

Meanwhile, the Head of Traffic at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes Komaruddin, said that the suspect is being charged under Article 311 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation.

“Under Article 311, paragraphs (1), (2), and (3),” said Komarudin separately.

The text of Article 311:

  1. Anyone who intentionally drives a Motor Vehicle in a manner or condition that endangers life or property shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 1 (one) year or a maximum fine of Rp3,000,000 (three million rupiah).

  2. In the event that the act as referred to in paragraph (1) results in a Traffic Accident with damage to Vehicles and/or property as referred to in Article 229 paragraph (2), the perpetrator shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 2 (two) years or a maximum fine of Rp4,000,000 (four million rupiah).

  3. In the event that the act as referred to in paragraph (1) results in a Traffic Accident with minor injuries and damage to Vehicles and/or property as referred to in Article 229 paragraph (3), the perpetrator shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 4 (four) years or a maximum fine of Rp8,000,000 (eight million rupiah).

The incident occurred on Jalan Dr. Sutomo, near the Pasar Baru bus stop, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (February 25) at around 5:00 PM. The driver drove recklessly and against traffic, causing multiple collisions. Several vehicles were reported to have been damaged as a result of the driver’s actions. Meanwhile, one motorcyclist was reported to have been injured as a result of the perpetrator’s actions.
