Four die in truck accident

KENDAL, Central Java: A truck carrying 40 workers from the state rubber plantation PTP 18 rolled over four times on a slope in Getar village here on Sunday afternoon, causing the deaths of four passengers and injuring 20 others.

Sukorejo Police Subprecinct chief Second Lt. Agus M said on Monday the truck was unable to pass over a ramp and the driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle. Many of the workers were thrown from the vehicle, with four workers dying instantly after being run over by the rolling truck.

The four fatalities were identified as Kasim, 50, Sardi, 40, Waliyah, 20, and Sugi, 40.

The workers were on their way home when the accident took place.

Residents close to the scene of the accident rushed the injured workers to the Dr. Kariadi General Hospital in Semarang, some 30 kilometers east of here. (har/edt)
