Four Defendants Sentenced to 8 Months and 7 Days for Concealing Brigadier Esco's Body

Four defendants in the murder case of Brigadier Esco Faska Rely have been sentenced to eight months and seven days in prison. The four defendants are Siaun, Nuraini, Paozi, and Dani Rifkan.

“Sentencing the defendants to imprisonment for eight months and seven days each,” stated the presiding judge of the Mataram District Court, I Putu Suyoga, while reading the verdict on Friday (19/6/2026).

The judge stated that the four defendants participated in concealing Brigadier Esco’s body. They were sentenced to eight months and seven days in prison based on Article 270 in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.

“Declaring the defendants legally and convincingly proven to have committed the criminal act of participating in concealing, carrying away, eliminating a corpse or hiding a death as charged in the third alternative indictment,” the judge added.

Meanwhile, the public prosecutor declared an appeal against the judge’s ruling, which was lighter than their demand. The prosecutor had previously requested the judge to impose a nine-month prison sentence for the four defendants.

“Appeal, Your Honour,” responded public prosecutor Ni Made Saptini.

Siaun, Nuraini, Paozi and Dani Rifkan were co-defendants alongside Brigadier Esco’s wife. The wife herself was sentenced to 10 years in prison in a separate verdict hearing.

The judge stated that the wife committed criminal acts of physical violence within the domestic sphere resulting in the death of the victim Esco Faska Rely. This was based on Article 44 paragraph (3) of Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence in conjunction with Article Number 38 of the first appendix to Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Penal Adjustments.

Brigadier Esco was found dead in a horrific state in the garden behind his house in Nyiur Lembang Hamlet, Jembatan Gantung Village, Lembar District, West Lombok, on 24 August. The intelligence officer from Sekotong Police Station was first discovered by Saiun. Brigadier Esco’s body was found in a decomposed state, with a damaged face and a rope tied around his neck under a tree.

Initially, Brigadier Esco’s death was suspected to be a suicide by hanging. However, the investigation by the West Lombok Police later revealed that Brigadier Esco died as a result of murder. Police subsequently named five suspects, with the first being Brigadier Esco’s wife, Briptu Rizka, followed by the four others.
