Four dead in traffic accident

BOGOR (JP): Four people died in an accident on the Jagorawi toll road in Sentul Selatan, Bogor, after a diesel-engine truck crashed into a trailer, traveling in the slow lane, early yesterday morning.

The four victims have been identified as the driver of the truck, Adi Iskandar, 27; his girlfriend Bona, 20; the driver's assistant, Lukman, 24; and Aban, 47, the owner of the truck's load of bricks.

An officer from Bogor Police said that the front section of the truck was severely damaged.

The officer, who did not want to be identified, said that the trailer's driver, Kliwon Siswanto, said he was not aware that his vehicle had been struck from behind.

"Kliwon just thought that one of his vehicle's tires had exploded," the officer said. Kliwon was shocked when he discovered what had occurred after trying to park his vehicle on the side of the road.

It was believed that Adi, who was driving the truck at high speed, was sleepy and did not see the trailer in front of him, the officer said.

The four victims were sent to PMI Hospital in Bogor, while Kliwon was detained at Bogor Police Headquarters for further questioning.

Abdullah, 47, one of Bona's relatives, said that the truck left Bogor at 2 a.m. to transport the bricks to Jakarta.

"We were informed about the incident at 8 a.m.," he said. (24)
