Four Days Before Lebaran: Vehicle Volume Transiting Cianjur Increases
As Lebaran approaches at H-4 (four days before), the volume of vehicles using the Cianjur homecoming route in West Java continues to rise, particularly during morning and evening rush periods, with travellers heading to districts and cities across West Java and Central Java.
According to Antara news agency on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, the surge in vehicles transiting the route comprises approximately 500 four-wheeled vehicles and around 1,000 motorcycles per minute. These vehicles are traversing the main Cianjur route towards Bandung Barangan and beyond.
Despite the increased vehicle volume, traffic congestion has not materialised, particularly at known congestion points ranging from the Puncak-Cianjur area to Haurwangi on the border with West Bandung. The majority of vehicles passing through bore registration plates from the Greater Jakarta area and Banten Province.
The surge in homecoming traffic is evident at numerous rest areas positioned along the main Cianjur route, including parking areas at mosques and security posts stretching from Puncak Pass to Haurwangi.
Hundreds of officers have been deployed at several high-risk locations during morning and evening periods to manage traffic flow, including on Puncak-Cipanas Road, Gentur Lampu Monument by-pass, Bandung-Cianjur Road and Cianjur-Sukabumi Road.
Aang Andi Suhdi, Head of Traffic Police for Cianjur Police District, stated that at H-4 before Lebaran, vehicle volume transiting the route had increased approximately 20 per cent.
Despite the increase, traffic remains normal and flowing smoothly. However, various anticipatory measures continue to be implemented at high-risk locations with traffic management strategies to prevent queuing or congestion.
Specifically during morning and evening periods when traffic peaks, officers at each security post implement controls to ensure vehicles pass through without creating queues, allowing normal transit flow.
“Various measures are being implemented, including traffic management strategies when vehicle volume surges, but thus far despite the increased flow, traffic remains normal and flowing,” he stated.
Authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise caution and vigilance when transiting, particularly on accident-prone routes such as the Puncak-Cianjur route, Bandung-Cianjur Road and Cianjur-Sukabumi Road.
