Four Days Before Eid, Traffic Accident on Main Pantura Road in Brebes Disrupts Homecoming Traffic Flow
As the countdown to Eid 2026 continued, a traffic accident occurred on the Pantura corridor in Brebes, Central Java. The collision involved a female resident returning from dawn prayers and a two-wheeled vehicle traveller heading home for the holidays. Both sustained injuries and were transported to the nearest hospital.
The accident took place on the main road in Brebes town, near the town square, on the morning of Tuesday, 17 March. A motorcyclist with Jakarta registration plates struck a woman who had just returned from dawn prayers at Brebes Grand Mosque.
Eyewitness Warin, 42, a Brebes resident, recounted that the accident occurred as a married couple on their way home for the holidays travelled from Jakarta. At the scene, a woman preparing to cross the road after attending dawn prayers at Brebes Grand Mosque was struck.
“However, as the motorcycle was travelling near Brebes town square, suddenly a woman still wearing a mukena crossed the road after performing dawn prayers at Brebes Grand Mosque,” Warin explained.
According to Warin’s account, the motorcyclist was apparently startled by the pedestrian crossing unexpectedly and had no time to swerve. The collision was unavoidable, causing three people to fall onto the road.
“The motorcycle was heading from west to east, and there was a woman in a mukena crossing after dawn prayers. The rider was probably startled, so he hit her directly,” Warin stated.
As a result of the accident, both the homebound traveller and the woman sustained facial injuries. Residents at the location immediately provided assistance and evacuated the victims.
Officers at the Eid 2026 security post at Brebes town square, together with residents, transported the victims by ambulance to Brebes District Hospital for medical treatment.
The traffic accident during the busy homecoming season temporarily disrupted traffic flow on the Pantura route through Brebes town. Authorities urged both homebound travellers and residents to exercise greater caution when travelling through or crossing the road.
The government is accelerating road infrastructure improvements along the strategic Pantura corridor and the Trans Java Toll Road to ensure smooth traffic flow during the 2026 Eid homecoming period. The Ministry of Public Works has targeted completion of pothole repairs on the western Pantura section before the holiday rush begins.
