Four Corporations in West Kalimantan Under Investigation over Forest and Land Fires

State Secretary Minister (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi has revealed that four corporations in West Kalimantan are currently under investigation over alleged violations that caused forest and land fires (karhutla). The government has stressed that it will not hesitate to revoke company permits if they are proven guilty.

“As reported earlier, there are four corporations currently in the investigation process,” Prasetyo said during a media briefing following a coordination meeting with President Prabowo Subianto, as quoted from Antara on Saturday (22/8).

Prasetyo emphasised that law enforcement is the main point stressed by President Prabowo in handling forest and land fires in the Kalimantan region. The government is currently awaiting the results of a thorough investigation to determine the next legal steps against these companies.

Strict sanctions have been prepared for corporations proven to have committed violations. Prasetyo stated that legal action could lead to the revocation of company operating permits in order to provide a deterrent effect and preserve forest sustainability.

“If violations are found, we will not hesitate and we will take action, up to the possibility of revoking their permits,” the State Secretary Minister stressed.

Regarding alleged violations by corporations in the Central Kalimantan region, Prasetyo mentioned that a specific report on the matter had not yet been submitted in the latest coordination meeting. He suggested that further information be confirmed with the local Regional Police (Kapolda).

President Prabowo Subianto, in his directives, called for law enforcement to be carried out without discrimination, both against individuals and corporations that deliberately carry out land burning. This measure is part of the government’s broader strategy to mitigate the adverse impacts of forest and land fires in Indonesia.
