Four bodies found near toll road

JAKARTA (JP): The bodies of four males, believed to be murder victims, were found near the Cikampek toll road in West Karawang, West Java, late on Saturday, Antara reported on Sunday.

Karawang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Hulman Dultom said an investigation was underway to ascertain the identities of the four men.

The bodies were found by an unidentified passerby who then reported his discovery to the nearby office of state-owned toll road management company, PT Jasa Marga.

The four men, all of whom were believed to be between 20 and 30, sustained slash wounds.

The bodies of the men were found in the one place under bamboo trees. Three of them were heavily tattooed.

Hulman, who visited the state-run Karawang General Hospital where the bodies are being kept, said the investigation would be directed at ascertaining whether the bodies were connected with a shooting incident that took place at the 19th kilometer of the Cikampek toll road on Saturday afternoon.

The bodies will be sent to state-run Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Central Jakarta for postmortem examinations.

Police were unable to find any clues that could help identify the men, except for some Rp 100 coins and a small paper bag of a type usually used by street singers to collect money. (emf)
