Four BAIS TNI Personnel Convicted of Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus File Appeal

The legal process concerning the acid attack on Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus is not yet over. Four personnel from the Indonesian Armed Forces Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS TNI) who were convicted by the Jakarta Military Court II-08 have opted to pursue an appeal.

The move was taken after the panel of judges declared the four defendants proven guilty of premeditated aggravated assault that caused Andrie Yunus to suffer serious injuries, including the loss of sight in his right eye.

Spokesperson for the Jakarta Military Court II-08, Mayor Chk (K) Endah Wulandari, said the appeal request had been submitted by the defendants’ legal counsel. “The legal advisers have filed an appeal. The military prosecutor has not yet stated their position; the deadline is today,” Endah told reporters on Thursday, 18 June 2026.

In the case, the four defendants, who are active TNI personnel, were found guilty by a panel of judges led by Colonel Chk Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto. The presiding judge stated that defendants Edi Sudarko, Budi Hariyanto Widicahyono, Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, and Sami Laka were legally and convincingly proven guilty.

The panel ruled that the defendants were not proven guilty of the primary charge of jointly committing severe maltreatment with prior planning. However, the judges declared all four defendants proven guilty of the more subsidiary charge. “Defendant One Edi Sudarko, Second Marine Sergeant, NRP 102064; Defendant Two Budi Hariyanto Widicahyono, Marine First Lieutenant, NRP 23990/P; Defendant Three Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, Marine Captain, NRP 240121/P; and Defendant Four Sami Laka, First Lieutenant Pas, NRP 533904, are legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing the criminal act as charged in the more subsidiary indictment: jointly committing maltreatment resulting in serious injury with prior planning,” the verdict read.

For his actions, defendant Second Sergeant Edi Sudarko was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment. The panel of judges also imposed an additional penalty of dismissal from military service.
