Four members of the Indonesian Armed Forces’ Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) involved in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, are facing a maximum prison sentence of 12 years. “We are charging them primarily and subsidiarily, or layered charges. The primary charge applies Article 469 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 20 letter C of Law No. 1 of 2023, with a maximum penalty of 12 years’ imprisonment,” stated the Head of the Military Prosecutor’s Office (Kaotmil) II-07 Jakarta, Colonel Chk Andri Wijaya, at the Military Court II-08 in East Jakarta on Thursday (16/4). Andri stated that all legal requirements to bring the soldiers to trial have been met. “This case file has fulfilled formal and material requirements, so we can process it into the Prosecutor’s Opinion Report and the Legal Opinion Letter from the Head of the Military Prosecutor’s Office,” he said. This legal action follows the receipt of the Case Submission Decision (SKEP) from the Case Submission Officer (Papera) to follow up on case number 55/K/2-07/AL-AU/IV/2026. “We have received the case submission decision from Papera, so the case has been transferred from the Military Prosecutor’s Office II-07 Jakarta to the Military Court II-08 Jakarta,” he said. According to Andri, this transfer also includes several pieces of evidence and a list of witnesses to be presented at the trial to strengthen the charges against the suspects, who are now defendants. “It is accompanied by the case file containing evidence and suspects—four suspects—along with eight witnesses,” he said. “Of which five are military personnel and three are civilians,” he added. The Military Court II-08 Jakarta has scheduled the first hearing of the case for Wednesday, 29 April 2026. The Head of the Military Court (Kadilmil) II-08 Jakarta, Colonel Chk Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto, confirmed that all files have been received for further examination before the trial begins. “We will hold the first hearing on Wednesday, 29 April 2026. The agenda is the reading of the indictment,” said Fredy. This trial will ensure the presence of the four defendants, consisting of three officers and one non-commissioned officer: Captain NDP, First Lieutenant BHW, First Lieutenant SL, and Second Sergeant ES. They serve in the Headquarters Detachment of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Denma BAIS) TNI, from the Navy and Air Force. “The defendants will definitely be present at the first hearing and are required to attend,” Fredy emphasised. Previously, Andrie was the victim of an acid attack on Thursday night (12/3). KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the incident occurred after Andrie Yunus attended a podcast event titled “Remilitarism and Judicial Review in Indonesia” at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), around 23:00 WIB.
