CAMBODIA: Cambodian police have arrested four men suspected of involvement in the killing of prominent trade unionist Chea Vichea last week, officials and police said on Wednesday.
"Four suspects have been arrested," Phnom Penh chief of criminal police Heng Poe told AFP, declining to give further details ahead of a press briefing scheduled for Thursday.
"Our main goal is not only to arrest the killers, but to find out who was behind the killing of Chea Vichea," he said.
Phnom Penh governor Kep Chuktema told AFP that one arrest was made late Tuesday night which led to three further arrests Wednesday.
"We are very pleased with the results of the investigation conducted by the municipality criminal police," he said, declining to provide details.
Other police sources told AFP on condition of anonymity that a pistol and ammunition had also been seized.
Chea Vichea, 36, the president of the Free Trade Union of Workers of the Kingdom of Cambodia (FTUWKC), was gunned down in broad daylight as he read a newspaper at a roadside kiosk on a Phnom Penh street last Thursday. -- AFP
