Four Airports Closed Due to Anak Krakatau Eruption
A total of four airports around Mount Anak Krakatau were temporarily closed following eruption activity that occurred in the early hours of Saturday (5/9) WIB.
BMKG Director of Aviation Meteorology, Achadi Subarkah Raharjo, stated that the closures were implemented at several airports based on updated operational statuses on Sunday (6/9) at 07:41 WIB.
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) was closed from 02:08 WIB to 09:30 WIB. Meanwhile, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (HLP) was closed from 07:20 WIB to 10:00 WIB.
Furthermore, Radin Inten II Lampung Airport (TKG) was closed from 04:18 WIB to 10:00 WIB, and Budiarto Curug Airport (RTO) was closed from 06:48 WIB to 09:30 WIB.
The operational closure of these airports was carried out amidst the eruption activity of Mount Anak Krakatau and the potential spread of volcanic ash, which could jeopardise flight safety.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, alongside flight operators, airport managers, air navigation services, and BMKG, continues to monitor the volcanic ash distribution and adjust flight operations based on developments in the field.
