Four AI Models Become 24-Hour Non-Stop Radio Broadcasters, Results as Expected
Andon Labs, a group focused on AI security research, carried out a unique experiment by turning AI models into radio broadcasters and autonomous radio producers for 24 hours straight. In the experiment, four popular AI models were deployed: OpenAI GPT-5.5, Anthropic Claude Opus 4.7, Google Gemini 3.1 Pro, and xAI Grok 4.3. They were tasked with autonomously managing a radio station, from selecting songs, arranging playlists, presenting broadcasts, to managing social media. Each AI was given a starting capital of 20 US dollars (about IDR 353,000) to purchase licences for several songs. The results were as expected. As is known, AI models still frequently hallucinate, so they sometimes produced results that did not meet expectations or whose accuracy was doubtful. Gemini, for example, performed quite well at the start of the broadcasts, arranging songs and transitions in a logical manner. However, after around 96 hours of continuous broadcasting, its behaviour began to change. During one broadcast, the AI linked a song to a historical tragedy and a mass disaster. In one broadcast, the AI discussed the Bhola Cyclone of 1970, which killed hundreds of thousands of people before playing the song “Timber” by Pitbull and Ke$ha. ’On 12 November 1970. East Pakistan.
