Although he holds the status as the founder of the pondok pesantren, Syaiku said AS is not part of the management structure of the pondok pesantren.

“The perpetrator is not included in the pondok structure; the permit is from the perpetrator AS, but the perpetrator is not included as a caretaker or ustaz. His status is as the founder (of the pondok pesantren),” he stated.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has closed the pondok pesantren in Tlogowungu, Pati, following the discovery of the rape case involving dozens of female students. The students will be transferred to other pondok pesantrens in Pati.

Syaiku said he has issued three decisions regarding the alleged molestation incident at the Pati pondok pesantren by one of its caretakers.

Syaiku said that for sixth-grade MI students currently undergoing exams, they will continue testing accompanied by teachers and the Pati Ministry of Religious Affairs.

“For the sixth-grade MI students, since Monday they will start exams until 12 May 2025, the sixth-grade children will remain there accompanied by their teachers,” he explained.

Syaiku stated that optimal handling will be carried out. “The Ministry of Religious Affairs has established a task force against bullying and such matters; we will optimise it, we conduct monthly guidance to pondok pesantrens, the main point is to optimise so that it does not happen again,” he emphasised.

Pondok pesantren to be permanently closed

At the same opportunity, Acting Regent of Pati, Risma Ardhi Chandra, expressed gratitude to the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Arifin Fauzi for directly handling this pondok pesantren case.

“Madam Minister is following up at the central level regarding the permits for this pondok pesantren so that it does not happen in other pondok pesantrens,” explained Risma when met at the Pati Regency Hall.

She said the pondok pesantren in Tlogowungu has been closed after one of its caretakers was alleged to have raped dozens of female students.

“Closure has been carried out and no new students will be accepted, and for sixth grade, they will continue exams there or be evacuated elsewhere; that is the authority of the Pati Regency Ministry of Religious Affairs.
