Founded by Indonesians, This Company is Praised by the Man Worth Rp 3,400 Trillion
Marvell Technology, a company founded by Indonesians, is currently in the spotlight. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has stated that the chip designer is set to become the next US$1 trillion (Rp 18,200 trillion) company.
Appearing alongside Marvell CEO Matthew Murphy during Computex Week in Taiwan last week, Huang emphasised that Marvell is vital for data centres because its chip capabilities connect thousands of chips and distribute computational loads.
Marvell’s current market capitalisation is approximately US$230 billion (Rp 4,184 trillion). If Huang’s prediction holds true, Marvell’s share price could potentially increase more than fourfold. On 22 June, the company’s shares are scheduled to be included in the S&P 500 index.
“If you look at computing problems being divided into several parts and then distributed throughout a data centre, the most important factor is connectivity. This is why Matt is successful. This is why Marvell is so important,” Huang remarked.
Marvell was founded in 1995 as a manufacturer of floppy disk drive components by two Indonesian brothers, Sehat Sutardja (who passed away in 2024) and Pantas Sutardja, alongside Sehat’s wife, Wili Dai. They chose the name because they aimed to build a company that creates ‘marvelous’ devices.
Chips designed by Marvell are utilised for global data infrastructure, including cloud data centres, AI, 5G networks, and corporate internal networks.
Nvidia recently announced a commitment to invest US$2 billion (Rp 36 trillion) in Marvell. Under the leadership of Huang, whose personal wealth is estimated to exceed Rp 3,500 trillion, Nvidia has been actively investing in AI-related companies. This is driven by the fact that developments in AI will directly impact the demand for Nvidia’s chip products. In addition to GPUs, Nvidia is now also producing CPUs specifically designed for AI training and processing.
