Foundation supports local teachers

JAKARTA: To help improve the quality of teachers in Indonesia, the GE Foundation is supporting the Foundation for Excellence in Education (FEE) through a two-year, US$100,000 grant to the Friends of Jakarta International School, Inc.

The grant will support a school quality improvement program focused on training teachers to utilize the latest research-based teaching methods.

SDN 12 Pagi state elementary school in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta, is one of the beneficiaries of the program.

The program is expected to be introduced at eight to 10 primary schools in Jakarta, with training for teachers focusing on the best practices in targeted subjects, such as math, languages and the sciences.

The foundation raised $52 million last year for community and educational programs around the world. -- JP
