Found Guilty, YouTuber Resbob Sentenced to 2.5 Years in Prison
Bandung – YouTuber Adimas Firdaus, alias Resbob, the defendant in a hate speech case against the Sundanese ethnic group, was sentenced to two and a half years’ imprisonment by the panel of judges at the Bandung District Court on Wednesday (29/4/2026). He was found guilty of committing hate speech published through information technology.
Adeng Abdul Kohar, the chief judge presiding over Resbob’s trial, stated that the defendant Adimas Firdaus had been legally and convincingly proven guilty of the criminal act of broadcasting or disseminating recordings audible to the public using information technology containing statements of enmity.
He noted that the act was carried out with the intention of being known to the public, including against one or more groups or populations in Indonesia based on race, ethnicity, nation, and skin colour.
“The defendant Adimas Firdaus has been legally and convincingly proven guilty of the criminal act of broadcasting or disseminating recordings audible to the public using information technology containing statements of enmity,” he said while reading the verdict in the courtroom at the Bandung District Court on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
Therefore, they imposed a prison sentence of two and a half years on the defendant Adimas Firdaus. The chief judge stated that the prison sentence would be reduced by the period of detention already served by the defendant.
“Imposing a sentence on the defendant Muhammad Adimas Firdaus alias Resbob of two years and six months. Determining that the period of arrest and detention served by the defendant shall be fully deducted from the imposed sentence,” he said. He continued that they ordered the defendant to remain in custody and that several items belonging to him be confiscated.
The chief judge added mitigating factors for the defendant, including that he had apologised to the Sundanese community and had never been previously convicted. Aggravating factors in the verdict included the defendant’s evasive and contradictory testimony.
He was found guilty of violating Article 243 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 243 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2026 on Criminal Law. The panel’s verdict matched the public prosecutor’s demand of 2.6 years’ imprisonment for the defendant. Therefore, the public prosecutor accepted the judges’ decision.
Meanwhile, the defendant Resbob briefly consulted his legal counsel to discuss the judges’ verdict. After the discussion, he informed the panel of judges that he would consider whether to appeal or not.
“I’ll think about it first, Your Honours,” he said.
