Fostering Independence from Pesantren, Santri Produce Bottled Drinking Water

Pondok Pesantren Al-Ashriyyah Nurul Iman in Parung, Bogor Regency, has developed a bottled drinking water production unit as part of its efforts to build the pesantren’s economic self-reliance.

In the production process, the pesantren involves its service santri so that they gain not only a religious education but also entrepreneurial experience and industrial skills.

The pesantren produces its Ointika hexagonal bottled drinking water using Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology to ensure the water meets quality standards.

In a single production run, the Ointika bottling plant is capable of producing around 2,000 to 3,000 bottles in 600-millilitre and 330-millilitre sizes.

The service santri are involved in various stages of production as part of skills and entrepreneurship learning within the pesantren environment.

At present, Ointika drinking water is still marketed on a limited basis to meet consumption needs within the pesantren and at various internal activities.

The bottled drinking water business unit is one of the pesantren’s efforts to build economic self-reliance based on santri empowerment.

Through direct involvement in the production process, the santri gain experience in business management, production, and workplace responsibility.

The development of productive business units within the pesantren is expected to strengthen the institution’s independence whilst equipping the santri with useful skills after they complete their education.
