The Head of the Social Services Department for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (Dinsos PPPA), Anak Agung Sagung Mas Dwipayani, has responded to the rape and assault of foster children by the orphanage owner in Sawan sub-district, Buleleng. Sagung stated that coordination has been made with Buleleng Social Services to accompany the eight orphanage children suspected to be victims. “Our top priority is to ensure the safety, recovery, and best protection for all affected children,” Sagung said on Monday (30/3/2026). Sagung conveyed that the victims have received initial handling, including psychological counselling, health services, and placement in a safe location. “The government is also taking steps to ensure the continuity of the children’s education and basic needs are met,” she said. All victims have been questioned, and medical examinations have been conducted, while the police have gathered evidence in the case. “For the other children still at the orphanage, further handling steps are currently being taken, including plans for relocation to a safer place that meets childcare standards,” she explained. Sagung emphasised that Bali Social Services fully respects the ongoing legal process and ensures justice for the victims. She also reminded all parties not to disseminate information and the victims’ identities to the public to protect the victims’ psychological condition. “And together create a safe and child-friendly environment,” she stressed. Previously, the owner of an orphanage in Sawan sub-district, Buleleng Regency, allegedly committed indecent acts against his own foster child with initials PAM (17). The man with initials JMW was reported to Buleleng Police Resort for alleged criminal intercourse. The Head of Public Relations of Buleleng Police Resort, Iptu Yohana Rosalin Diaz, confirmed the report. It is suspected that JMW raped the victim at the orphanage in February 2026. “Based on the received report, the victim admitted to being called to help massage the suspect in his room. After that, the room door was locked, and the victim was forced to have sexual intercourse,” she revealed on Sunday (29/3/2026). In addition to the alleged sexual violence, the victim also reported experiencing assault by JMW, which occurred on Thursday, 26 March 2026, around 16:00 WITA. The victim suffered a torn wound on her cheek after allegedly being hit with a cable by the suspect. The incident occurred after the victim left the orphanage to go to her boyfriend’s house. Due to fear and pressure, the victim then told her older sibling about the entire incident and subsequently reported the case to Buleleng Police Resort with number LP/B/83/III/2026/SPKT/Polres Buleleng/Polda Bali dated 27 March 2026. “The victim felt scared and finally conveyed the events she experienced to her family. The report has now been received and is being handled further by investigators,” Yohana emphasised.
