Forum set up for military, students
DILI, East Timor: The military and the students of state-run
East Timor University have established a periodic discussion
forum in a bid to improve communication.
The local military, which took the initiative to set up the
forum, means to exchange ideas with local educated young people
on development issues in the youngest province, spokesman for the
area military command, First Lieutenant E.A. Anwar, said.
The first discussion was held on the university's campus two
months ago. During that meeting, the area military chief, Col.
Syahnakrie, briefed 100 students on the role of the Armed Forces
in the development of East Timor.
Syahnakrie used the same occasion to explain to the students
about the "identity" of the Indonesian Armed Forces, Anwar said.
The dialog was lively, with the students expressing their
ideas freely, Anwar told Antara. (pan)
