Fortuna Sittard Technical Director Reveals Reason for Signing Ole Romeny
Fortuna Sittard technical director Joris Mathijsen has revealed the reason for bringing in Indonesian national team striker Ole Romeny during the summer transfer window. Mathijsen said the arrival of Ole Romeny from English club Oxford United is an effort to sharpen Fortuna Sittard’s front line. “Ole is an addition of strength to the attacking line whom I know well from previous cooperation,” Mathijsen explained. He added that he continues to monitor Ole’s development and assesses that the player, who previously played for FC Utrecht, now has international experience as a striker for the Indonesian national team. “Since then, he has developed further and gained experience, both at national and international level. Moreover, he has now become a player for the Indonesian national team,” he continued. Fortuna Sittard brought in the 26-year-old player from Oxford United on a one-year loan deal lasting until the end of the 2026/2027 season. Mathijsen explained that the process of Ole Romeny’s move to Fortuna Sittard took quite some time, but he is ultimately pleased with its completion. “We have been working on Ole’s arrival for quite a long time, but the process of arranging his work permit made the completion of the transfer take longer,” Mathijsen added. This transfer process also sees Ole Romeny return to competing in the Dutch League, having previously played for NEC Nijmegen, Willem II, FC Emmen, and FC Utrecht.
