Former Vice President JK Praises 6th Vice President Try Sutrisno's Significant Contribution to Indonesia
Former Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla (JK), who served as Indonesia’s 10th and 12th Vice Presidents, attended the funeral service and burial of Indonesia’s 6th Vice President, General (retired) Try Sutrisno.
JK paid tribute to Sutrisno’s significant contributions to the nation. “We mourn the passing of General (retired) Try Sutrisno to Allah’s mercy. He was someone who made a tremendous contribution to this nation and held great aspirations for all of us,” JK said at the Grand Mosque of Sunda Kelapa in Central Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Kalla recalled Sutrisno as a person who pursued noble efforts throughout his life and frequently offered wise counsel. “As a nation, we recognise his consistent efforts for good until his final days. He was always present at every occasion and provided good advice to all of us,” he added.
Try Sutrisno passed away at RSPAD Gatot Subroto Hospital in Central Jakarta at the age of 90 at 06:58 Western Indonesian Time on Monday, 2 March. President Prabowo Subianto led the funeral ceremony, which was conducted with full military honours at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta.
“May the path of service and dedication he pursued become an example for us all, and may his soul find the best place beside Almighty God,” said President Prabowo.
Former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and former Vice President Boediono attended the proceedings. Several cabinet members participated in the funeral procession, including Foreign Minister Sugiono, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Economic Affairs Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto, and State-Owned Enterprises Committee Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
