Former Vale Director Becomes CEO of DSI, Global Network Under Scrutiny
JAKARTA — Rosan Roeslani, the Minister for Investment and Hilirisasi and also Chief Executive Officer of Danantara Indonesia, has revealed the reasons for appointing Luke Thomas Mahony as President Director of PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia (DSI).
Rosan said Mahony’s track record in the minerals and trading sector was a major consideration. “We are looking at many considerations as well; it’s about track record too,” Rosan told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Friday, 22 May 2026.
He also noted that Mahony possesses a strong international network. “Most importantly, he has trading experience, minerals experience, so he has led many mineral-related companies and his network is good, and we have seen that his work at Danantara has been very, very good,” he said.
Mahony is an Australian national who previously served as Director of PT Vale Indonesia. He has also served as SEVP – Senior Executive Vice President, Business Performance & Optimisation at Danantara Indonesia since September 2025. Rosan added that Mahony’s experience in multinational companies is an additional advantage and noted Mahony’s ability in the Indonesian language. “He can also speak Indonesian and indeed his wife is Indonesian,” Rosan said.
The policy was announced by President Prabowo in a plenary session of the DPR RI at the Nusantara Building, Complex of the MPR, DPR, and DPD RI in Jakarta on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. Under the new rule, the government designates state-owned enterprises as sole exporters for a number of strategic commodities. “The sale of all our natural resource outputs will start with palm oil, coal, and ferro-alloys, and we are obliged to ensure that it is conducted through the state-owned enterprises designated by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia as sole exporters,” said President Prabowo.
