Former UK Ambassador: Israel Will Disrupt US-Iran Ceasefire

Washington (ANTARA) - Israel is likely to attempt to thwart the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, despite facing challenges, former British Ambassador to Syria Peter Ford told RIA Novosti.

“Israel will certainly try to sabotage that effort. However, they face two new challenges. Trump will not be easily manipulated, and experience shows that Iran cannot be forced to submit through bombing,” Ford said.

He added that Lebanon will be the main obstacle because Israel continues to attack Hezbollah targets.

“Iran’s growing strength confronts Netanyahu’s hardline stance, who views withdrawal from Lebanon as shameful. This situation could shake the new balance of power,” he stated.

On 28 February, the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and killing civilians.

Iran retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.

On Tuesday night, US President Donald Trump announced that he had agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, which also includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

On Wednesday, Israeli fighter jets and artillery attacked dozens of settlements in southern Lebanon, including the city of Tyre.

Trump stated that stopping Israel’s attacks on Lebanon is not included in the agreement with Iran due to the Hezbollah factor.

However, Iran considers this a violation of the ceasefire with the US.
