Former UGM Student Body Chair Tiyo Considers Reporting After Two Tracking Devices Found on Car

Two tracking devices were found on a car used by former UGM Student Executive Body (BEM) chair Tiyo Ardianto. Following the incident, Tiyo is considering filing a report. “I am considering reporting it while conducting an independent investigation,” Tiyo said when contacted by journalists on Monday (15/6/2026). Tiyo stated that the two tracking devices were discovered at different times. The first device was found on Saturday night (13/6) after he attended a protest in Gejayan. The second device was found attached to the car’s rear tyre. It was discovered on Sunday (14/6) while he was travelling to the airport in Semarang. “I do not know whether these two devices are different, installed at different times, or if the second device is connected to the first,” he stressed. Tiyo also highlighted the nature of the terror he experienced. He believes the devices were deliberately installed and made easy to find. “I think that is precisely where the terror lies. That this was deliberately installed for me to know, to serve as an alarm that wherever I go, there are people who know, there are people watching,” he said. Separately, the Head of Public Relations for the Yogyakarta Regional Police (Polda DIY), Commissioner Ihsan, confirmed that his office has not yet received a report regarding the incident. “Regarding this information, we can confirm that Polda DIY has not yet received an official report from the concerned party,” Ihsan said. Nevertheless, Ihsan stated that officers in the field continue to monitor and gather initial information to maintain public order and security. “We encourage Mr Tiyo or the aggrieved party to immediately file an official report with Polda DIY. The report is important as a legal basis for us to conduct a procedural, objective, and thorough investigation,” he said. As previously reported, former UGM BEM chair Tiyo Ardianto found two tracking devices installed on the car he was using. It is suspected that the two devices were installed in Yogyakarta and Semarang. According to Tiyo, during the journey from Semarang to Yogyakarta on Saturday (14/6), a notification appeared several times on his mobile phone. However, Tiyo ignored it at the time because he was driving to attend a protest in Gejayan. After the protest that night, the notification reappeared. He then checked and found a box-shaped device with a magnet attached to the rear of the car body. The device was then soaked in water overnight. Tiyo suspects the device was installed while he was in Yogyakarta because it was not dirty, whereas it had rained several times during the journey from Semarang to Yogyakarta. “It was completely clean, which might indicate that the device was newly installed when I was in Yogyakarta,” he said.
