The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has confirmed that former Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi (BKS) was unable to attend a summons to give testimony as a witness in the railway corruption case involving the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) in East Java. The KPK stated that Budi Karya had another commitment.

“The witness confirmed that he could not comply with today’s request for testimony, as he had another scheduled engagement,” KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told reporters on Wednesday (18/2/2026).

Budi Prasetyo said the witness examination would be rescheduled, though no specific date has yet been confirmed.

“Investigators will reschedule the examination,” he said.

The KPK had previously summoned Budi Karya as a witness in the case, with the examination scheduled at the KPK building in Kuningan, South Jakarta.

“That is correct. Today, Wednesday (18/2), the KPK scheduled the examination of witness BKS, who served as Minister of Transport from 2019 to 2024, in connection with the alleged corruption offence within the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) in the East Java region,” KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told reporters on Wednesday (18/2).

The alleged railway corruption case at the DJKA under the Ministry of Transport spans several regions, one of which is East Java. The KPK has named a number of suspects in the DJKA corruption case.

Most recently, the KPK designated inactive Pati Regent Sudewo as a suspect. The KPK stated that Sudewo was named a suspect in his capacity as a former member of the House of Representatives’ Commission V.

“Mr SDW’s involvement falls within the framework of the DJKA case at the Ministry of Transport. Mr SDW is implicated not in his capacity as Pati Regent, but in his capacity as a member of Commission V of the House of Representatives, which is the parliamentary partner of the Ministry of Transport,” Budi said at the KPK building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Thursday (22/1).
