Former Terrorism Inmate at Sentul Prison Becomes Poultry Processing Entrepreneur
Among the various products on sale, there are several processed poultry products branded Chicken Jepun. The products are manufactured by Jamaludin (49), an inmate at Lapas Sentul prison.
“Alhamdulillah, Chicken Jepun has been operating for one year. This is pure knowledge from Lapas Sentul. Lapas Sentul has imparted an extraordinary amount of knowledge, including the production of frozen food,” said Jamaludin when encountered during a car-free day on Sudirman Street, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (24 May 2026).
Jamaludin is known to be a former terrorism inmate who was involved in an attempted breach of Istana Merdeka (Independence Palace) in 2022. He stated that he is grateful for his rehabilitation at Lapas Sentul, which ultimately enabled him to create the processed food product.
“Before going to prison, there was an incident involving Istana Merdeka. The Istana Merdeka incident eventually happened, although I didn’t initially expect such a case. But that is God’s will. However, I am grateful that I ultimately discovered a product through the rehabilitation programme at Lapas Sentul,” he said.
Jamaludin explained that he was originally sentenced to four years. However, his sentence was reduced to two years and two months after being deemed to have exhibited good conduct.
“I entered prison in 2022, approaching the election period. I received a four-year sentence, but because of my good behaviour inside, I only served two years and two months,” he said.
From his processed food business, Jamaludin claimed to have supplied his products to 50 restaurants and cafés in the Jabodetabek region. He also supplies his products to several central kitchens (SPPG).
“Eventually, we entered several outlets. Alhamdulillah, we now have 50 branches throughout Jabodetabek. And alhamdulillah, we have already entered central kitchens — approximately seven kitchens — and we will enter 10 more. Hopefully, approximately 17 in total will be in operation,” he said.
Jamaludin explained that his surrounding community has responded positively to what he is doing. He noted that community leaders in his neighbourhood were initially unaware that he had been involved in a terrorism case.
“The community environment is entirely positive with me, alhamdulillah. Even all the community leaders came to my home when I returned, because they couldn’t believe I was involved in such a case,” he said.
Through his business venture, Jamaludin has created employment for 13 people. Moreover, he is planning to increase his workforce.
“Today there are 13 people. We have already opened job vacancies with roughly 20 applicants, and we are selecting approximately 10 more. Next month we will add 10 more employees due to our expansion,” he added.
