Former Special Staff of Yaqut Answers KPK Summons in Hajj Quota Corruption Case
Former special staff to ex-Religion Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, Ishfah Abidal Aziz (IAA), known as Gus Alex, appeared at the Indonesia Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) headquarters on Tuesday, 17 March 2026 for questioning as a suspect in a hajj quota corruption case.
According to KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo, Gus Alex arrived at the Red and White Building of the KPK at 08:20 WIB and immediately underwent examination by KPK investigators. “IAA arrived at the KPK Red and White Building this morning to undergo questioning by investigators,” Prasetyo stated on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
The KPK has declined to disclose details of the examination or to confirm whether Gus Alex will be detained following the questioning. “Let us await the completion of the examination,” said Budi.
In this case, the KPK has already designated both Yaqut and Ishfah Abidal Aziz (Gus Alex) as suspects. Yaqut is alleged to have violated Article 2 paragraph (1) and/or Article 3 read in conjunction with Article 18 of the Anti-Corruption Law, read in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) clause 1 of the Criminal Code.
The KPK subsequently ordered Yaqut’s detention for an initial 20-day period from 12 to 31 March 2026, to be held at the State Detention Centre (Rutan) Branch of the KPK Red and White Building. Gus Alex has not yet been detained by the KPK.
