Former Sleman Regent Sri Purnomo Attends Prosecution Arguments Hearing Today
Former Sleman Regent Sri Purnomo, the defendant in an alleged corruption case involving the 2020 Tourism Grant Fund for Sleman Regency, is scheduled to attend a hearing for the prosecution’s arguments presentation today.
The hearing agenda has already been registered in the Court Case Tracking Information System (SIPP) of the Yogyakarta District Court (PN Jogja). The hearing, with the agenda for the public prosecutor’s arguments presentation, is scheduled for 9.00 a.m. in the Garuda courtroom at PN Jogja.
“Yes, in accordance with the hearing schedule in SIPP,” confirmed Muhammad Ismail Hamid, the spokesman of PN Jogja, when contacted by detikJogja on Thursday (12 March 2026).
Sri Purnomo has already undergone a series of hearings since his initial hearing on the reading of the public prosecutor’s indictment on 18 December 2025. The former two-term Sleman Regent filed an exception to the indictment, which was rejected by Presiding Judge Melinda Aritonang in a preliminary ruling hearing on Friday (9 January).
In the indictment letter, the public prosecutors allege that Sri Purnomo misappropriated the 2020 Tourism Grant Fund for Sleman Regency to finance the election campaign of Sleman regent candidates Kustini and Danang Maharsa at that time.
The prosecutors explained that in 2020, to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government provided grants to affected regional administrations in the tourism sector totalling Rp 68.518 billion. All distribution provisions were regulated in the Regulation of the Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Number KM/704/PL.07.02/M-K/2020 dated 9 October 2020.
“In section G, point 1, subsection c, it states ‘The grant funds given to regional governments are divided with an allocation of 70% for direct assistance to the hotel and restaurant industry and 30% for regional governments to be used for handling the economic and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the tourism sector’,” stated the public prosecutor’s indictment from 18 December 2025.
As Sleman Regent for the 2016-2021 period and recipient of the 2020 tourism grant fund for Sleman Regency, Sri Purnomo issued Sleman Regent Regulation Number 49 of 2020 on Guidelines for Tourism Grant Provision dated 27 November 2020 to implement the grant fund.
This regulation allocated 70% of the grant to hotel and restaurant entrepreneurs and 30% to community groups in the tourism sector. However, before this regulation was issued, around August-September 2020, Sri Purnomo conveyed a message to witness Kuswanto, the chairman of the Sleman PDIP District Leadership Board in 2020.
“(Kuswanto) was a member of the Coalition Team for the 2020 Sleman Regent Election Victory with the message ‘there is money from the central tourism ministry that is not being used; it can be used for the election victory’,” stated the public prosecutor.
A week after receiving this message, witness Kuswanto convened all the administrators of the Sleman PDIP District Leadership Board. Kuswanto conveyed the message from Sri Purnomo to the administrators present.
“Regarding the use of the 2020 Tourism Grant Fund for Sleman Regency for the victory of the Candidate Pair for Regent and Deputy Regent of Sleman with Serial Number 3, Dra Hj Kustini Sri Purnomo-Danang Maharsa, SE,” explained the public prosecutor.
In addition to Kuswanto, Sri Purnomo also instructed witness Arif Kurniawan, the secretary, and witness Dodik Ariyanto, the deputy chairman of the Sleman PAN District Leadership Board, to use the Sleman tourism grant programme for 2020 in voter outreach to ensure the victory of the Kustini-Danang candidate pair.
Sri Purnomo subsequently designated five tourism villages in Minggir, Moyudan, and Seyegan, Sleman, as recipients of the 2020 Sleman tourism grant fund programme.
“And conveyed a request to the community to reciprocate by helping to ensure the success and voting for the Candidate Pair for Regent and Deputy Regent of Sleman Regency with Serial Number 3 (Kustini-Danang) in the 2020 Sleman Regent Election,” stated the public prosecutor.
On Sri Purnomo’s instructions, witness Dodik conducted a briefing on the 2020 Sleman Tourism Grant to the Gamping, Mlati, Godean, Seyegan, Moyudan and Minggir areas, which are part of electoral district V.
“By stating: there will be a tourism grant from the central government for communities applying to request that they submit proposals; next, proposals will be collected and we request your help to ensure the success of Candidate Pair Number 3 in the 2020 Sleman Regent Election,” explained the public prosecutor.
As a result of Sri Purnomo’s actions, state financial losses totalling Rp 10.952 billion accrued, according to the Report on the Calculation of State Financial Losses issued by the Financial and Development Supervisory Board (BPKP) DIY Regional Representative regarding the Alleged Corruption Crime of the 2020 Tourism Grant Fund for Sleman Regency, Fiscal Year 2020, Number: PE.03.03/SR-1504/PW12/5/2024 dated 12 July 2024.
Sri Purnomo’s actions are deemed to have violated Article 2 paragraph (1) read together with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 on Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes read together with Article 55 paragraph (1) point 1 of the Criminal Code.
Following the rejection of Sri Purnomo’s exception, the case proceeded with witness examination. Numerous witnesses have been presented at the hearings in turn, ranging from officials involved to Sri Purnomo’s son Raudi Akmal, and the current Sleman Regent Harda Kiswaya.
