Former Seminar Salit Village Treasurer Sentenced to 2.5 Years for Corruption
Mataram (ANTARA) - A panel of judges has sentenced the former treasurer of Seminar Salit Village, West Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, Arini Orianti, to two years and six months in prison in a corruption case involving village funds for the 2017–2018 fiscal year.
“Sentencing the defendant Arini Orianti to imprisonment for two years and six months,” said Chief Judge I Made Gede Trisna Jaya Susila while reading the verdict at the Corruption Court at the Mataram District Court on Monday.
In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed a fine of Rp10 million, subsidiary to 10 days in custody, and ordered Arini to pay restitution for state financial losses amounting to Rp227 million, subsidiary to one year in prison.
In the same case, two other defendants who are village officials and members of the Activity Implementation Team (TPK), namely Darussalam and Muhammad Isnaini, were each sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of Rp10 million, subsidiary to 10 days in custody.
The judge also ordered Darussalam to pay restitution of Rp45 million. However, because he had already deposited the money during the prosecution stage, the judge ordered the funds to be confiscated to cover the state losses in the case.
After the trial, public prosecutor I Dewa Gede Agung Putra Diatmika stated that the sentences for the three defendants were lighter than the prosecutors’ demands.
“For Arini, we previously demanded three years and six months in prison. Isnaini two years and three months, and Darussalam two years and one month,” he said.
Therefore, the prosecutor has not yet decided whether to accept the verdict or file an appeal.
“We are still considering it because we will report to our superiors first,” he said.
“There are six defendants in total. Five have undergone trial. Three had their verdict hearing today, two others have been sentenced and have permanent legal force, while one person is still on the wanted list (DPO),” he added.
Based on information on the Jaga ID website, Seminar Salit Village was recorded as managing village funds in 2018 amounting to Rp969 million. The budget was used for various village programmes, including agriculture, capital investment for Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), education, MSME training, and physical development.
However, during implementation, a number of irregularities were discovered, including fictitious reports and the use of the budget not in accordance with legal provisions, resulting in state financial losses.
