Former schoolmate's heinous act dashes Anggi's wedding dreams

Anggi Aulia Arsyad, 25, was murdered by her former schoolmate, M Febryan, 26. Anggi had planned to accept a proposal next month. The couple’s wedding plans were thwarted prematurely due to the heinous act of the old friend. Anggi’s wedding plans for June were revealed by her sister, Humaira, 35, who also clarified rumours suggesting a romantic relationship between Anggi and Febryan. ‘My sister is educated, she has a boyfriend, and she was about to get married,’ Humaira said at Bogor City Police Station on Monday (25 May 2026). She stressed that Anggi and the suspect were merely acquaintances. Humaira mentioned that Anggi’s fiancé had travelled from Makassar, South Sulawesi (Sulsel) upon hearing the tragic news. She hopes no one misunderstands the relationship between her sister and the suspect. ‘My sister is educated; she has a boyfriend. In fact, her boyfriend came from Makassar yesterday. There’s a boyfriend, a fiancé, and the proposal is set for next month,’ Humaira said with tearful eyes. Anggi was murdered by Febryan, her body dumped from the BORR Toll overpass. Her remains were found on Sholeh Iskandar (Sholis) Street, Tanah Sareal District, Bogor City, West Java (Jabar), on Saturday (23 May) around 1:15 am WIB. Police arrested Febryan on the Cisumdawu Toll Road while he was fleeing in the victim’s car. The stolen vehicle overturned during the police chase. Febryan, also known as Ambon, faces multiple charges under Articles 459, 458(1), 479(3), and/or 466(3) of Indonesia’s 2023 Criminal Code (KUHP) in conjunction with Article 2(1) of the Emergency Law. ‘The charges include murder, premeditated murder, and severe assault. We have layered these charges to ensure the suspect, who is extremely brutal, does not escape justice. The potential sentence is 15 to 20 years in prison,’ said Bogor City Police Chief Kombes Rio Wahyu Anggoro. Anggi’s Character: Independent and Generous Anggi’s uncle and adoptive father, Syamsudin, 52, confirmed that Anggi and Febryan were schoolmates. He stated that their relationship was purely that of old friends. ‘If the suspect and the deceased were schoolmates, then he was not her boyfriend. Again, the suspect was not her boyfriend, just a friend. Like me, when meeting old schoolmates at reunions, they’re just friends, we communicate and reconnect,’ Syamsudin said. Currently serving as a captain in the Army’s Kopassus special forces, Syamsudin has raised Anggi since childhood, overseeing her education and career. He assured there were no issues between Anggi and the suspect. Syamsudin raised Anggi after her biological parents died when she was young. ‘There were no problems; I am certain of it. I can confirm the deceased and the suspect were not in a romantic relationship. I say this because I raised her, educated her—she was a former schoolmate he hadn’t seen in years,’ Syamsudin said. He described Anggi as independent, having funded her own university education until she earned a bachelor’s degree. She was known for being family-oriented and generous, working at a legal consultancy firm specialising in banking mediation solutions. ‘The deceased was hardworking. I raised her from childhood through high school; then she worked while studying. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree while employed. Even among colleagues, she was known for her generosity, especially towards family,’ he added. Deadly Trap Under the Guise of Heartbreak Anggi and Febryan had not communicated since graduating from high school. However, Febryan had harboured feelings for Anggi for years, leading to communication via social media direct messages (DMs). ‘The suspect has harboured feelings for the victim since their school days,’ Rio said. Their intensive communication continued with their first meeting on 2 May in Bogor Regency. Febryan claimed to be hurt by the victim’s comments about his parents, prompting a second meeting on 22 May evening. ‘On 2 May 2026, they met at a fountain. The victim asked the suspect about his parents’ well-being; the suspect replied, ‘I no longer have parents,’ leading to remarks that caused him deep resentment,’ Rio explained. The second meeting turned out to be a deadly trap planned by Febryan. He carried a machete and a blue tie in his bag. The suspect ultimately strangled the victim with the tie. ‘Due to deep resentment, two weeks later, the suspect invited the victim to meet on Friday, 22 May. During this second meeting, the victim was unaware the suspect had prepared the tools,’ Rio said. Extortion Before Murder Febryan attempted to extort money from the victim, claiming it was for reconciliation or an apology for the victim’s remarks that hurt him. ‘The suspect displayed a machete and threatened to kill her, then said, ’If you want peace, pay up.’ When the victim refused, she was executed inside the car—strangled with the tie,’ Rio said. Febryan murdered the victim in her own car. He transported the weakened body after strangulation before dumping it from the BORR Toll overpass. ‘The execution occurred inside the car at Pakansari, near Pakansari Stadium. The victim was strangled using the tie the suspect had brought,’ Rio said.
