Former Rubbish Dump in Sukmajaya, Depok, Catches Fire; Two People Evacuated

A fire occurred on a former rubbish dump site in Sukmajaya, Depok City. Six fire engines were deployed to extinguish the blaze. The fire broke out on Saturday (18/7/2026) at 7.30 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. The flames were successfully extinguished after firefighters battled for approximately two hours. The object that caught fire was a former rubbish dump covering an area of around 300 to 500 square metres. “The object was a former rubbish dump,” said Tesy Haryanti, Head of the Fire and Rescue Operational Control Division at the Depok Fire and Rescue Service, in a statement on Sunday (19/7/2026). The fire was fully handled by 9.34 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. The blaze is suspected to have been triggered by rubbish burning activity that was left unattended, causing the fire to grow. There were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. However, officers successfully rescued two people who were near the location. “The number of victims rescued was two people,” she stated. Tesy mentioned that the fire did not spread to the residential area. Several semi-permanent houses around the location were successfully saved, with the asset value estimated to be around Rp 100 million.
