The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has diverted the detention of former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, who is a suspect in the Hajj quota corruption case, to house arrest.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the switch in Yaqut’s status to house arrest has been in effect since 19 March 2026.

“Investigators have changed the type of detention for suspect YCQ, from detention at the KPK Branch State Detention House to house arrest, since Thursday, 19 March 2026 evening,” Budi told reporters on Saturday, 21 March 2026.

He explained that Yaqut’s family requested the KPK on 17 March 2026 to change the type of detention for the Hajj quota case suspect.

Following that, he said the KPK reviewed the request and granted it, considering Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law No. 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

Article 108 paragraph (1) of the KUHAP regulates that types of detention consist only of detention at a detention centre, house, and city. Meanwhile, Article 108 paragraph (11) regulates that changing the type of detention can be done based on an investigation order letter, with copies provided to the suspect, the suspect’s family, and relevant institutions.

“Its implementation involves temporarily changing the type of his detention,” he revealed.

Meanwhile, he assured that the KPK will continue close supervision and security for Yaqut after he becomes a temporary house detainee.

“We assure that this temporary detention switch process complies with the provisions and procedures for investigation and detention of a suspect. Likewise, the handling of this case will continue to proceed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” he confirmed.

It is known that Yaqut was named as one of the suspects in the alleged corruption case related to Indonesia’s Hajj quota for 2023-2024 by the KPK on 9 January 2026.

On 12 March 2026, the KPK detained Yaqut at the KPK’s Red White Building Branch State Detention House after his pre-trial was rejected on 11 March 2026. The case is said by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPK) of Indonesia to have caused state losses of up to Rp622 billion.
