The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has announced that Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, the suspect in the alleged corruption case involving Hajj quotas, became a house detainee before Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, specifically on 19 March 2026. According to KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, the change in status to house arrest is temporary. “Investigators changed the type of detention for suspect YCQ, from detention at the KPK branch state detention house to house arrest, starting from Thursday night (19/3/2026),” said Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Saturday (21/3/2026). He further explained that the family of the former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) of Indonesia submitted a request on 17 March 2026 to KPK to change the type of detention for the suspect in the Hajj quota case. After that, Budi said, KPK reviewed the request and granted it, considering Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). Article 108 paragraph (1) of the KUHAP only regulates that types of detention consist of detention in a detention house, house arrest, and city arrest. Meanwhile, Article 108 paragraph (11) regulates that changes in the type of detention can be carried out based on an investigation order letter, copies of which are given to the suspect, the suspect’s family, and relevant institutions. “The implementation involves temporarily changing the type of detention,” he continued.
