Former Religious Affairs Minister of Indonesia Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has been officially detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the first 20 days in connection with alleged corruption involving additional hajj quotas, on Thursday, 12 March.

Yaqut, who has been designated as a suspect, claims he never received any money related to the hajj quota allocation decision.

“I never received a single rupiah from the case being alleged against me, and I implemented all of these policies solely for the safety of the pilgrims,” Yaqut stated.
