Former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Accused of Causing State Loss of Rp622 Billion in Hajj Quota Case
Jakarta — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) decided to detain former Religious Affairs Minister (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas on Thursday (12 March 2026). Yaqut was charged in connection with corruption involving hajj quota at the Religious Affairs Ministry.
Asep Guntur Rahayu, Deputy Head of the KPK’s Prosecution and Execution Division, revealed that the state financial loss in the hajj quota case reached Rp622 billion.
“To complete the investigation of this case, the Financial Audit Board (BPK) has also calculated the state financial loss resulting from unlawful acts committed by the related parties concerning the hajj quota for the implementation of Indonesian hajj pilgrimage in 2023–2024, which amounts to Rp622 billion,” said Asep during a press conference on Thursday (12 March 2026).
Additionally, the KPK has secured various pieces of evidence and assets. The assets are diverse in nature, including cash, land, and buildings.
“In this case, the KPK also carried out asset seizures totalling more than Rp100 billion in value, comprising cash in the amount of USD 3.7 million; Rp22 billion and SAR 16,000, as well as 4 vehicles, and 5 plots of land and buildings,” said Asep.
In terms of legal proceedings, Asep stated that the investigation in this case has been tested in a pre-trial hearing at the South Jakarta District Court. In the pre-trial hearing, the judge decided to reject all of the motions submitted by Yaqut.
