Former rector issues bogus certificates

BEKASI: At least 239 people in Bekasi have obtained fake university certificates issued by a former rector of Kertanegara University here, Antara reported on Wednesday.

The "graduates" were awarded their degrees at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah in East Jakarta last month by Harry Ganda Asli, who had been dismissed by the university, according to Budi, a staff member at the university.

They obtained the certificates after paying Rp 4 million each, Budi said.

The "graduates" had taken classes at other colleges for some time before obtaining the bogus degree. They had never attended classes at Kertanegera University, Budi added. -- JP
