Former Quarry in Bali's PKB Klungkung Transforms into Viral Lake Destination

A lake in the Pusat Kebudayaan Bali (PKB) area of Klungkung has gone viral on social media. Residents have given the lake various names, including Danau Gunaksa because it is located in Gunaksa Village, Dawan District, Klungkung, and Danau PKB. Netizens have recently dubbed it Danau Viral due to its frequent appearances on social media. Interestingly, the lake, which is now bustling with tourists, was once a sand and stone quarry site.

“The place is spacious and the atmosphere is cool in the afternoon. It’s perfect for unwinding or just chatting with friends on the weekend,” said visitor Wayan Agus Yoga Pratama (22) from Klungkung on Saturday (13/6/2026). According to detikBali’s observations, hundreds of visitors crowded the lake’s edge on Saturday afternoon. Besides enjoying the expanse of calm lake water, visitors can also view the towering Mount Agung in the distance. They come with friends, partners, or family. Yoga himself admitted he does not mind what the lake is called. He believes the more important thing is ensuring the place remains well-maintained and free of litter.

Wayan Tangkas (37), a trader who set up a stall at the lake, said he has been selling there for about 1.5 months. Every afternoon, Tangkas sells food and drinks from his car. “Every day there are always people coming. But it gets crowded on weekends, especially in the afternoon,” Tangkas said. Tangkas explained that the area was originally rice fields. After years of excavation for quarry materials, he said, the location became a lake. As a trader, Tangkas said he still pays attention to waste after selling. He collects rubbish and takes it home from around the lake. He believes the most important thing now is that the place remains beautiful.

Visitors crowding the viral lake are not only from Klungkung. For instance, Bayu Angga came all the way from Denpasar with a group after learning about the lake from social media. “It matches what went viral on social media. The place is pretty cool,” Bayu said. Access to this man-made lake is quite easy. If travelling from Denpasar City, simply head east on the Ida Bagus Mantra Bypass towards Klungkung Regency. After entering the Pusat Kebudayaan Bali (PKB) Klungkung area and encountering a red bridge, take the left lane at the intersection towards the former quarry area.
