Former police officer killed
JAKARTA (JP): A retired police officer was killed in a chain collision on Jl. Wiyoto Wiyono toll road in Jatinegara, East Jakarta, yesterday.
Brig. Gen. (ret.) Sudiantoro, 61, of Tanjung Barat, West Jakarta, was the only fatality in the accident involving five vehicles, First Sergeant J. Firmansyah of the Rawabening subprecinct said.
Four of the five injured people were taken to the Christian University (UKI) General Hospital and the other to the Islamic General Hospital, Firmansyah said.
The pileup started when Sudiantoro's car crashed head on into a truck traveling in the opposite direction which had broken through the median barrier.
Three other cars behind Sudiantoro's then crashed into the wreckage.
The truck driver, Suyitno, 27, a resident of Lampung, was taken to Kebon Nanas Police subprecinct, East Jakarta, for questioning.
Suyitno told the police he lost control after failing to overtake a car at high speed.
Sudiantoro retired in 1992 having been head of the Jakarta Police financial agency. He had since been involved in the printing business. (04)
