Former PGN President Director Demanded Five Years' Prison in Gas Trading Corruption Case
Public prosecutors from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have demanded a five-year prison sentence for Hendi Prio Santoso, former President Director of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) Tbk for the period 2008–2017, in a case of alleged corruption in a gas sale transaction between PT PGN and PT Inti Alasindo Energi (IAE).
The demand was read out by prosecutors at a hearing of the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday (28 July).
In addition to the prison sentence, prosecutors demanded that Hendi pay a fine of Rp200 million. Should the fine go unpaid, it would be replaced by 80 days’ imprisonment.
“We therefore sentence the defendant Hendi Prio Santoso to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rp200,000,000, on the condition that if the fine is not paid it shall be replaced by 80 days’ imprisonment,” the prosecutors said as they read out the indictment.
In their sentencing demand, the prosecutors stated that Hendi had been legally and convincingly proven to have committed corruption jointly, as regulated under Article 603 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
“We declare that the defendant Hendi Prio Santoso has been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing corruption jointly as regulated and punishable under Article 603 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, as charged in the first count,” the prosecutors said.
Beyond the principal sentence, the prosecutors also demanded an additional penalty in the form of restitution payments amounting to 500,000 Singapore dollars. However, this obligation was declared fulfilled, as Hendi had previously deposited the full amount into the KPK’s escrow account.
“We impose an additional penalty in the form of restitution payments of 500,000 (five hundred thousand) Singapore dollars, taking into account the sum of 500,000 Singapore dollars already deposited into the KPK’s escrow account… so that the defendant Hendi Prio Santoso is no longer burdened with paying restitution,” the prosecutors said.
The prosecutors also requested that the panel of judges order that the period of detention Hendi has already served be deducted in full from the sentence imposed, that the defendant remain in custody, and that court costs of Rp5,000 be charged to him.
On the same day, the panel of judges also held a hearing to read out the sentencing demands against the President Commissioner of PT Inti Alasindo Energi (IAE), Arso Sadewo Tjokrosoebroto, another defendant in the same case. Although the hearings took place concurrently, the demands were read out separately, with Hendi’s turn coming first.
In this case, Hendi was previously accused of receiving S$509,400, or approximately Rp5.09 billion, described as a success fee from the gas sale agreement between PT PGN and PT Isar Aryaguna and PT Inti Alasindo Energi (IAE), including the withdrawal of advance payments.
“The money was taken from the coffers of PT Isar Aryaguna, amounting to Rp5.09 billion, and exchanged into Singapore dollars totalling 509,400,” the KPK prosecutors said as they read out the indictment at a hearing on 16 April 2026.
Before Hendi Prio Santoso faced his sentencing hearing, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had first prosecuted two other defendants in the same case: Danny Praditya, former Commercial Director of PT PGN for the period 2016–2019, and Iswan Ibrahim, Commissioner of PT Inti Alasindo Energi (IAE) from 2006 to 2023.
Both were sentenced by the panel of judges of the Jakarta Corruption Court on 12 January 2026. Danny and Iswan each received six years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rp250 million, on the condition that if the fine is not paid it shall be replaced by six months’ imprisonment.
In addition to the principal sentence, Iswan was also given an additional penalty in the form of restitution payments of US$3.33 million. If the restitution is not paid, his sentence will be replaced with three years’ imprisonment. The panel of judges imposed the additional penalty after finding that Iswan had been proven to have received proceeds of the corruption in the gas sale transaction between PT PGN and PT IAE.
Three other witnesses were also summoned by the KPK in this case. According to Budi, their initials are MSMM, DSW and DAS — all former officials at PGN.
