Former Persis Chairman Maman Abdurrahman Passes Away

Former chairman of the Central Leadership of the Islamic Union (Persis), Maman Abdurrahman, passed away on Sunday (21/6). The news was conveyed via Persis’ official social media account. Maman Abdurrahman served as chairman of Persis for the 2010-2015 period, and subsequently as chairman of the PP Persis Advisory Council for the 2022-2027 term. The deceased was the father of former Director General of Hajj and Umrah at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Hilman Latief. Condolences were expressed by a number of figures, including the chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir. According to Haedar, Maman was very close to Muhammadiyah, both in thought and in activism. ‘Long before Hilman became a member of PP Muhammadiyah, I often communicated, visited, and discussed matters with him. Certainly, both Persis and Muhammadiyah feel the loss of this great figure,’ Haedar said in an official statement on Muhammadiyah’s official website. He stated that Maman’s passing is a great loss for the Islamic propagation and reform movement in Indonesia. Haedar also advised Hilman Latief and the extended family to continue to uphold and carry on Maman’s spirit of struggle for the advancement of Islam and the nation. ‘On behalf of PP Muhammadiyah, we express our deepest condolences. May the deceased attain husnul khatimah, be forgiven all his shortcomings, have his good deeds accepted, and may the bereaved family be granted fortitude,’ he concluded.
