Former Ombudsman Chief Hery Susanto Received House in Nickel Mining Case

The Attorney General’s Office has stated that former Ombudsman Chairman Hery Susanto received a house as a gift in a corruption case concerning nickel mining governance in Southeast Sulawesi from 2013 to 2025. Acting Head of the Attorney General’s Legal Information Centre, Mohammad Jeffry, said the house and money were received as a reward for an Ombudsman Analysis Results Report issued by Hery. ‘HS unlawfully received a sum of money from companies. In addition, HS also received one residential unit,’ he said in a written statement. Jeffry said that in this case, investigators from the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes have transferred Hery to the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office for immediate registration with the court. He stated that the transfer of the suspect and evidence, or Phase II, was carried out by investigators from the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes on Monday (8/6). In this case, he said, investigators have examined 38 witnesses and two experts. Additionally, investigators have conducted searches at several points in Jakarta and seized documents and electronic evidence. Previously, Ombudsman Chairman Hery Susanto was named a suspect in the corruption case regarding nickel mining governance in Southeast Sulawesi for the 2013-2025 period. Director of Investigation at the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, stated that Hery played a role in issuing a letter correcting the amount of non-tax state revenue from the Ministry of Forestry. Hery also examined the Ministry of Forestry and arranged it so that the fine billing issued against PT TSHI appeared to be erroneous. A corrective letter was then issued by the Ombudsman with an instruction for PT TSHI to perform its own calculations regarding the burden to be paid to the state. For his actions benefiting PT TSHI, Syarief stated Hery received a reward of Rp1.5 billion in 2025.
