Former NTB Governor Fulfils Prosecutor Summons in Motocross Case

Former West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Governor Zulkieflimansyah complied with a summons from prosecutors on Wednesday, presenting himself for questioning as a witness in a corruption investigation. The probe concerns the organisation of the Lombok-Sumbawa Motocross Competition (LSMC) in 2023. Spokesperson for the NTB High Prosecutor’s Office, Harun Al Rasyid, confirmed that the former governor, who served from 2018 to 2023, arrived in the morning to be examined by special crime investigators. On Tuesday, prosecutors also questioned the event’s organisers, identified as Chandra and Bahrul, regarding findings from the NTB Inspectorate. The Inspectorate’s report, based on a 2024 review, flagged irregularities amounting to Rp2.6 billion from the total realised budget of Rp21.5 billion. The extreme motorsport event, held on 24-26 November 2023, was intended to attract tourists during the NTB anniversary celebrations. It was organised by the NTB Tourism Office using funds from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, which had allocated Rp24 billion. Former Tourism Office head Jamaludin Malady, who now serves as Head of the Governance Bureau, has also been questioned multiple times as a witness. Other officials examined include former NTB Inspectorate head Ibnu Salim and former head of the Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency, Samsul Rizal. The investigation was triggered after the event’s unused funds of Rp2.5 billion were returned to the central government, while the Inspectorate’s findings of Rp2.6 billion in irregularities from the realised spending prompted the prosecutor’s office to escalate the matter to a formal inquiry.
