Former MPR Secretary-General Ma'ruf Cahyono Officially Detained by KPK, Suspected of Receiving Rp17 Billion in Gratuities
Jakarta, VIVA – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially detained Ma’ruf Cahyono, former Secretary General of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), after questioning him as a suspect in an alleged gratification case related to procurement within the MPR.
The detention took place on Thursday, 9 July 2026, after Ma’ruf underwent questioning at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta.
Observations at the scene showed Ma’ruf leaving the examination room wearing the KPK’s orange detainee vest. Both of his hands were also seen in handcuffs before he was taken to the detention house in a KPK detention vehicle.
Questioned as a Suspect
Prior to his detention, Ma’ruf was again questioned by investigators as a suspect in the alleged gratification case.
When approached after the questioning, Ma’ruf said he had provided the various pieces of information required by investigators during the examination process.
“Earlier I was asked for a lot of information, so I explained things so that everything is clear. There were many things I explained earlier,” said Ma’ruf.
The questioning was the second time Ma’ruf had been examined as a suspect. Previously, he was also questioned by KPK investigators on Thursday, 25 June 2026.
KPK Investigates Alleged Procurement Gratuities at the MPR
The case ensnaring Ma’ruf relates to the alleged receipt of gratuities in the procurement process within the MPR RI.
In its investigation of the case, the KPK has named Ma’ruf Cahyono as a suspect. During his tenure as Secretary General of the MPR RI from 2019 to 2021, he is suspected of having received gratuities in substantial amounts.
To date, the KPK continues to delve into the case to uncover the entire chain of alleged criminal acts that occurred in the procurement process within the MPR.
Suspected of Receiving Rp17 Billion
In its investigation of the case, the KPK suspects that Ma’ruf received gratuities worth approximately Rp17 billion.
Nevertheless, the anti-corruption agency has not yet disclosed in detail the construction of the case or the mechanism behind the alleged receipt of gratuities implicating the former MPR Secretary General.
Investigators are still gathering evidence and exploring the testimonies of various parties to complete the investigation process.
The detention of Ma’ruf forms part of the KPK’s steps to advance the legal process over the alleged procurement gratuities within the MPR RI. The case continues to be developed, including to fully reveal the construction of the case and other parties suspected of being connected to the alleged criminal acts.
