Former Minister Yaqut Returns for KPK Questioning After Hospital Stay Ends
Former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ) has been questioned as a suspect in the alleged corruption case related to the 2023-2024 Hajj quota. Yaqut underwent further examination after his period of suspension ended. He arrived at the KPK building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/6/2026) at 09.08 WIB, wearing a detainee’s vest and handcuffs. Yaqut was seen carrying a cushion to sit on. He made little comment regarding the examination, only stating, ‘We’ll see after this. Bismillah, bismillah. I hope the truth is revealed.’ Yaqut had been granted a suspension since Wednesday (24/6) due to digestive issues. These health problems led to him undergoing surgery on Monday (29/6). In this Hajj quota corruption case, the KPK has named four suspects, all of whom have been detained. The suspects are former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, his former Special Staff Ishfah Abidal Azis (Gus Alex), the Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour) Ismail Adham, and the Chairman of the Kesthuri Association Asrul Azis Taba. The KPK suspects that Ismail and Asrul provided money to Yaqut through an intermediary, his former Special Staff Gus Alex. Ismail allegedly gave USD 30,000 to Gus Alex and is also suspected of handing over USD 5,000 to Hilman Latief, the former Director General of Hajj and Umrah at the Ministry of Religious Affairs for 2024.
