Bandarlampung – The Lampung High Prosecutor’s Office has named Arinal Djunaidi, Governor of Lampung Province for the 2019–2024 period, as a suspect in an alleged corruption case concerning the management of funds from a 10 per cent “participating interest” (PI) in the Offshore South East Sumatra (WK OSES) working area, valued at US$17,286,000.

Lampung Senior Prosecutor Danang Suryo Wibowo stated in Bandarlampung on Tuesday that the suspect designation was made after the investigation team found at least two pieces of sufficient evidence.

The 10 per cent participating interest (PI) represents the maximum ownership right of 10 per cent that must be offered by oil and gas cooperation contract contractors (KKKS) to regional or state-owned enterprises (BUMD or BUMN).

“Based on examination results and case exposure, two pieces of sufficient evidence have been found, so Mr ARD has been designated as a suspect,” he said.

He explained that the case relates to alleged corruption in the management of the 10 per cent PI funds in the offshore Sumatra working area, with a value reaching US$17,286,000.

“Subsequently, suspect ARD will be detained at the Class I State Detention Centre in Bandar Lampung at Way Hui for the next 20 days,” he added.

Danang stated that Arinal Djunaidi is charged under Article 603 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code.

Subsidiary: Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code.

“The Lampung High Prosecutor’s Office reaffirms its commitment to handling the case objectively, professionally, upholding justice and human rights values,” he said.

Furthermore, he added, the prosecutor’s office also opens opportunities for the public to monitor the legal process, including reporting any suspected violations by law enforcement officials.

“The handling of this case is expected to proceed in accordance with legal regulations for the enforcement of law and the realisation of justice for all Lampung society,” he said.

Former Governor Arinal Djunaidi arrived to comply with the summons from the Lampung High Prosecutor’s Office at 10:00 WIB and left at 21:16 WIB wearing a pink vest.

Arinal, under tight escort by the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) and prosecutor’s officials, was immediately taken to a detention vehicle to be transported to the Way Hui Detention Centre.
